Pop Can Tooling & Stamping on Metal       Pop Can Tooling & Stamping on Metal
Note: Bear design shown on left is discontinued.

Materials needed:

  • Aluminum 38-gauge, copper, "shim metal" (from hardware or automotive store) or a pop can cut and flattened.
  • Stamp, preferably a simple design with lots of contrast.
  • Embossing stylus
  • Black Memories Stamp Pad
  • Permanent markers - Marvy Pigment Markers are good.
  • Padded surface area such as newspaper, felt pad or mouse pad.
  • Old scissors - cutting metal may dull your good ones.

T E C H N I Q U E

  1. Cut a piece of metal slightly larger than your stamp.
  2. Stamp the design on the metal with Memories black ink. Heat Set.
  3. Place the metal stamped side up onto a padded surface.
  4. Use your embossing stylus to outline the image with the larger end.
  5. Use the smaller end of the stylus on the inner detail lines.
  6. Add textured or "hammered" finish by tapping, dotting or crosshatching
on the area outside the image. The more you hammer, the better the
    beaten look will turn out.
  7. Turn the image face down and carefully rub the inside portions of the image to make it stand out. Use your stylus, or a rounded wooden stick or Q-tip.
  8. Cut out the image, leaving a hammered border surrounding it.
  9. Finishing:
    • Color the metal with pigment pens. Heat set.
    • Embossing powder can be used before or after your stylus work.
    • Sponge and rub with a Memories black ink to give a weathered look.
  10. Mount on card. Works well between a window cut on the front of the card
and a liner which covers the sharp edges.
