Bubble
Texturing:
In
a shallow bowl or cup, mix calligraphy ink, acrylic
paint or dye based ink with water. Add a small amount
of dish soap. Blow into the mixture with a straw to
create bubbles. Catch the bubbles on your card paper.
For best results, use matte or index paper. |
 |
"Marble"
Texturing:
In
a shallow pan, add acrylic paint to water. The paint
will float on top. Swirl it to form patterns, adding
more colors if desired. Take a greeting card and drop
it flat onto the water. When you lift the paper out
of the pan, the paint will have adhered to it. Lay
flat to dry. |
 |
Double
Stick Tape:
Use
double stick tape as a border on your card. Sprinkle
with embossing powder and heat emboss. Use one color
of powder or several colors for a rainbow border.
Try covering the tape with tiny beads. For a unique
multi-color look, put confetti on the tape. Apply
embossing powder to the remaining exposed tape. Remove
the confetti, and then apply a contrasting color of
powder. |
 |
Colored
Deckle Edge:
Decide
where the torn edge will be. Score this line. Add
any color pigment ink to a small amount of water on
a piece of scratch paper. Using a brush or an eyedropper,
apply a thin line of colored water to your scored
line. Allow a short time for the fibers of the paper
to absorb the water. Pull paper apart. |
Other
CREATIVE TEXTURE Ideas:
-
Tissue Texturing: Crumple a piece of tissue paper
tightly to produce wrinkles. Flatten it out and iron it
onto the plastic side of a piece of freezer paper. Use
scrap paper or a brown bag to protect your iron. Do not
use steam. After it is well bonded, trim the paper to
the desired size and shape. Try rolling on clear embossing
ink with a brayer and then heat embossing with clear or
sparkle powder.
-
Spatter
Texturing: Dip
a toothbrush into the above water/paint mixture. Apply
to paper by running your thumb across the bristles.
-
Patterned
Texturing: Create unique backgrounds using spray paint applied through
a variety of materials. Try using more than one color
of paint. Some ideas: lace fabric, netting, tulle, any
open weave fabric, or just "found" objects such as leaves,
string, confetti, etc.
-
Baby
Wipes:
After using baby wipes to clean stamps, you can re-use
them to create interesting textures. The colors bleed
and blend together. The edges can be torn and the wipe
can be glued onto a card for background elements such
as clouds. Glitter or other embellishments can also be
added.
