When
a straight scissors line just doesn't "cut it" for your
design, try a decorative paper edger. Put your own special
edge on stationery, postcards, gift tags, etc. with a decorative paper edger.
You
can create 3 or 4 different looks with each of the paper
edger designs by cutting strips:
2
parallel cuts
-
1 cut, then turn the scissors over for a reverse of the
same pattern. For example a scallop edger used this way
will create a cute string of beads.
-
Shift
the pattern for the second cut, creating a dimensional,
"ribboned" look.

For
straight edging: Use a regular scissors to cut out the
basic piece, and then trim with your paper edger, or mark
the line or pattern lightly on the back of the paper as
a guide for cutting.
-
When
cutting a continuous piece or strip, realign the patterns
by matching a point or curve of the scissors blade with
a curve or point of the next cut before making the snip.
-
To
cut away an inside area, such as the middle of a circle
or rectangle, draw the cutting lines on the back of your
work. Use a straight scissors or craft knife to poke a
hole in the center of the area and cut to the corners
or sides. Trim excess paper away and trim up to the line
with your paper edger. Cut decorative mats and frames
for your photos or stamped artwork.
-
Use
your decorative paper edgers to create a template. For
example, cut out a rectangle smaller than your card. Lay
the template in the center of your card and sponge all
around. When you lift away your template, you will have
a shaded border with a decorative edge.
-
Cut
decorative strips of paper for paper weaving.
-
Add
layers to your cards by cutting progressively smaller
shapes to place on top of each other. These can be made
of contrasting colored paper and mounted with foam mounts
for a raised look if desired.
-
If
your paper edgers begin to shred and "chew" the paper
instead of cutting cleanly, "sharpen up" by cutting several
times through wax paper or extra fine sandpaper to remove
paper fiber buildup from blades.
