Blending Blox Techniques

Each ink pad has a raised surface containing four shades of the same color flowing from a light shade to a vibrant dark color. Use them to create fabulous blends of color with a minimal amount of work.

IMPORTANT: For best results see each technique for best type of cardstock to use
(Non-coated: Regular cardstock OR Coated: GLOSSY or MATTE cardstock.)

GENERAL STAMPING

Any type of cardstock may be used.

  • Simply use the blending blox ink pads as you would any other stamp pad.

  • Try stamping leaves, snowflakes, flowers, balloons, phrases, etc. for a beautiful look that produces a very interesting array of blending color shades.

DIRECT TO PAPER TECHNIQUE
Use Coated Cardstock (GLOSSY or MATTE) for best results.

  • Stamp designs in black ink (or a color that will show up over the blending blox color used). Allow ink to dry for at least 5 minutes, or heat set with a heat tool.

  • After ink is dry, flip blending blox upside down and rub across the paper in one
direction. Repeat if color does not cover completely.

  • More than one blending blox may be used on the same project. You can use a mask to divide the colors for easy application. Let your project dry for at least 5 minutes or heat set with a heat tool.

  • Try using a dark or silhouette image to divide colors. See loon sample in top row.

RESIST TECHNIQUE
Use Coated Cardstock (GLOSSY or MATTE) for best results.

  • Stamp designs with a watermark ink, such as VersaMark, onto glossy or matte cardstock. Lightly dry ink with heat tool.

  • Drag blending blox ink pad across cardstock in one direction. The design stamped in watermark ink should show through in pale white.

  • To cover an area larger than the size of the stamp pad, simply drag first row, then flip the stamp pad so that the color you ended with now matches up with the same color you are starting with for the next row. For example, if the last color in the row is the darkest shade, flip the pad so that the first color is the darkest shade.

  • Try changing direction from horizontal to vertical, or even diagonal to create interesting and new effects.

WATERCOLOR TECHNIQUE
Use Regular or Non-Coated Cardstock for this technique.
GLOSSY or MATTE is not recommended.

General Watercolor Technique
Ink desired design with blending blox. Stamp on standard (non-coated) cardstock. Use a blending pen or water brush to pull color from edges of stamped image to fill or "color" the open areas of the design.
See flower example to the left.

Painting or Applying Ink with a Blender Pen or Water Brush
Another watercolor technique is acquired by stamping the ink of the blending blox ink pad onto a piece of plastic or a cd cover. The ink will bead up on the surface. You will then be able to pick up the different colors or blended colors with a blending pen or waterbrush to apply the color to your project. Try embossing your image in gold or silver powder before adding color. See presents sample.
